You have your sketchbook, title page designed and now....you have a book of blank pages! It can be daunting, but keep in mind it is just for you. A sort of diary of creative ideas which, if you keep it up, will become a valuable resource for your future projects. Your sketchbook is not the place for resolved work (although it could be), it does not need to conform to any particular model so do not feel under any pressure – it should be fun!
January Challenge
A Winter Walk
Your task is to find inspiration from the great outdoors! Your walk might be based on an epic excursion, dog walk, it can be real or remembered/imagined.
Stage 1. Observe.
Your immediate response might be to make studies of found objects or sketch a view, all good stuff, but I urge you to dig a little deeper...
What do you hear, feel or smell, what thoughts come to mind?
Charles Darwin famously walked his 'Thinking Path' everyday while contemplating his theory of evolution. Is your walk your 'thinking' place?
You might be thinking about a book you've been reading, a film or piece of music. You might be feeling at peace with the landscape or battling deadline pressures or other burden. All of these influences are potential material for future artwork.
Begin by recording; images, sketches, colour notes, a line or two of text. Anything goes, paste in found objects/images, photos etc to support your thinking process.
